Why does Sniff exist?

Life with our rescue beagle involves walks, quiet time and activities to help him settle. Some days we offer a few things; on others, the routine carries on into the evening. Our behaviourist asked us to keep a record, so I made Sniff to help us see what we were doing and when. More about why I made it.

Is it free? Will you ever charge?

This version stays free: no ads and no subscription. Optional extras may come later, such as tracking a walk from start to finish, and those might cost something. Everything Sniff does today stays free.

Do I need an account?

No. Open Sniff, choose your dog's activities and start recording.

Where does my data go?

Your activity stays on your device. No account needed. Save a backup now and then so you can restore your logs if you change phones. If you turn on weather, your approximate location is sent to the weather service to get your local weather.

How does the weather work?

It's optional. Turn it on in Settings and Sniff asks for your rough location, blurred to about 10 km. Once a day it fetches the weather for wherever you are, so it follows you if you travel. Past days keep the weather they were logged with. It's the day's weather, not the exact moment of your walk.

Is this instead of a behaviourist?

No. Sniff records what happened. It doesn't diagnose or advise. Your logs are a useful thing to show the person you work with. How it works covers what Sniff can and can't tell you.

Which phones does it work on?

Android only for now, through Google Play. iPhone may come later.

What if I change phones?

Settings, then Save a backup, gives you a file. On the new phone, use Restore a backup.
