Sniff is a free app for recording your dog's activities and walks. It is made by Tony Goff-Yu, trading as Ganda, in London. This page explains what happens to your information.

The short version: your activity stays on your device. No account needed. If you turn on local weather, your approximate location is sent to a weather service.

What Sniff stores

What you enter, such as your activities, the times you record them, walk details and your settings, is saved in your phone's app storage. There is no account and no sign-up. Sniff does not send your logs to us, and we never receive, see or store them.

This storage is essential for the app to work, because it is where your logs are kept. Sniff does not use cookies.

What Sniff does not do

  • No analytics or tracking.
  • No account, so no name, email or password.
  • No adverts.
  • No selling or sharing of your information.
  • No access to your contacts, photos or camera.

Local weather (optional)

If you turn on Local weather in Settings, Sniff asks your phone for your location, rounds it to roughly 10 km and keeps only that rounded position on your phone. It checks your location again the first time you open Sniff each day, so the weather follows you if you travel. Once a day, Sniff sends the rounded position to Open-Meteo, a free weather service, to get the weather for your area. Sniff sends nothing else with it. Open-Meteo's own privacy policy applies to that request. You can turn this off at any time, which deletes the saved position and weather.

Backups

Save a backup creates a file on your phone with your logs in it. Where that file goes next is up to you. Restore reads a backup file you choose and replaces what is on the phone.

Hosting

The Sniff site and app files are served by our hosting provider, which may process standard technical logs, such as your IP address and the time of a request, outside the UK under standard data protection safeguards. These do not include your activity logs.

Deleting your data

Settings, then Delete everything, removes all your Sniff data from the phone straight away. Clearing the app's storage in your phone settings also removes it.

Children

Sniff is made for adult dog owners and isn't aimed at children. It doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
